Islam:  A Political System Too (1)

Victor M. Eskew

The Constitution of the U.S. grants us the freedom to practice any religion in the United States.  The opening words of the First Amendment read:  “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…”  Many religions can be found within our nation:  Jews, Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, and many, many more.

Recently, there have been heated debates about the “religion” of Islam.  It has even been suggested by one political candidate that Muslims who are not citizens of our nation should be forbidden entrance into the U.S. for a period of time.  Some agree.  Some do not.  Those who do not want Muslims to be forbidden from coming into our nation remind us that we are a nation that allows the freedom of religion.

This writer wants the readers of this article to understand that Islam is more than a religion.  It is also a political system.  If Islam has its way in the United States, the Constitution will be cast out and Sharia Law will be the law of the land.  Sharia Law is the law that governs every aspect of Islam, including government.

At the website, Islamicweb.com, we read:  “Islam is a complete way of life. It impacts every part of life, from eating and sleeping to working and playing. It is not only a personal religion, but also a social one.”  Notice two statements:  “every part of life” and “a social one.”  Most of the countries wherein Islam is in control of the government are fascist.  In essence, they have a dictator who is in charge of the country.  These leaders keep their power and control the masses through violent means, means authorized in Shari’a Law.

Sharia Law is the law that governs Isalm.  The term “sharia” means “way” or “path.”  Sharia Law was created from several sources:  the Qur’an, the Haddith, The Sunna, and Islamic jurisprudence.  This law is deemed as the supreme law because it involves sources that are divine and not of human origin.

A nation based upon Sharia would have a caliph as the leader of the nation.  The caliph would have a Shura, a counsel of people who advise him.  In addition, a group of ulema, “guardians of the law,” would operate as a check and balance to the caliph.  Sharia would be enforced upon all the inhabitants of the land.  Islamic courts would exist and judges would oversee the sessions.

Strict adherence to Sharia is expected of all citizens.  The Qur’an states:  “O believers! Obey God and obey the Apostle and those who have been given authority [uulaa al-amr] among you” (Qur'an 4:59).  The only reason for disobedience is if a leader orders something contrary to divine law.

Sharia is a cruel, demanding law.  The following are examples of Sharia:  1) A second-class submission tax, called the Juzyah, must be imposed on Jews and Christians (and other religious minorities) living in Islamic countries.  2) Slavery is allowed.  3) A male slave owner may have sex with his slave-women, even prepubescent slave-girls.  4) Blasphemy against Allah or Muhammad can bring imprisonment or execution.  5) Drinkers and gamblers may be flogged.  6) The hand of a male or female thief may be cut off.  7) Homosexuals may be imprisoned, flogged, or executed.  8) Adulterers can be stoned.  9) Men can have up to four wives.  Dear readers, do you desire Sharia Law to govern you?
