HOMOSEXUALITY IS ON THE MARCH

INTRODUCTION

 

A.               There seems to be a fact that many nations have forgotten, including theUnited States of America.  That fact is that God is the Ruler of all nations.

1.               His title:

a.         The Governor among the nations (Ps. 22:28)

b.         The King of all the earth (Ps. 47:7)

c.         King of nations (Jer. 10:7)

                        2.         The words of Jehoshaphat (II Chron. 20:6)

 

And said, O Lord God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven?  And rulest not thou over all kingdoms of the heathen?  And in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?

 

                        3.         These thoughts help us to understand the words of the psalmist (Ps. 9:17).

 

The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all nations that forget God.

 

B.               If God is the Governor, the King, and the Ruler over all nations upon the earth, it is imperative for them to submit to Him and His holy laws.

 

C.              Evidence abounds that proves our nation is turning its back upon God.  One of the evidences is seen in the acceptance and spread of homosexuality in our land.

 

I.          RECENT EVENTS

 

A.               Five states in our nations have given approval to same-sex marriage.

1.               Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Iowa currently

2.               Vermont (Sept. 1, 2009) and Maine (Sept. 14, 2009)

 

B.               Ten more states are likely to follow suit in the coming months.

 

C.              In the past, homosexuality was looked upon as a blight within our military.

1.               Prior to 1994, there was a ban on gays in the military.

2.               In 1994, President Bill Clinton implemented the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy.  Those entering the military were not asked their sexual orientation.  They were not to tell it to anyone.

3.               President Obama has made a campaign promise to lift the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy.  This will allow homosexuals to serve in the military and openly declare their sexual orientation while serving.

 

D.              Within the past couple of weeks there has been much controversy surrounding the statements Carrie Prejean, a Miss U.S.A. candidate, made about same-sex marriage.

1.               The Question:  Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalize same-sex marriage.  Do you think every state should follow suit, why or why not?”

2.               The Answer:  “I think its great Americans are able to choose one or the other.  We live in a land that you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage.  And you know what in my country, in my family I think that a marriage should be between a man and a woman.  No offense to any one there, but that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think it should be, between a man and a woman.”

3.               The Results:

a.         Some say it cost her the pageant.

b.         It almost cost her the Miss California crown.

c.         She has been thrust into the national spotlight.

d.         The debate over same-sex marriage rages.

e.         No women’s group and no civil rights group have come to Carrie’s defense.  They have not advocated for her rights to state her opinion.

 

E.               The Christian Scholar’s Conference held on the campus of Lipscomb University

1.               Date:  June 2008

2.               Sixty-eight universities and colleges were represented, along with twenty-four additional institutions.  Pepperdine, Abilene Christian, Oklahoma Christian, Harding, and Lipscomb had representatives there.

3.               The men and women present are supposed to be the brightest “scholars” on the planet.

4.               Jared Cramer, a former ACU graduate and Reverend in the Anglican (Episcopal) Church made a presentation on homosexuality.  In the presentation, he argues:

a.         There is nothing wrong about a faithful, loving, monogamous same-sex relationship.

b.         There is nothing inherently evil about homosexuality.

c.         The oneness proclaimed in the book of Ephesians should include homosexuals.

 

F.               These are only some of the high-publicity items that have been reported of late.  The subtle, low-keyed efforts of the homosexual movement are seldom, if ever, discussed in a public forum.

 

II.         ROYAL EDICTS

 

A.               Remember, God is the Governor among the nations.  It is imperative that we find out His will when it comes to homosexuality.

 

B.               Numerous passages can be set forth.

1.               Genesis 2:18-24

a.         Man is alone in the Garden of Eden.

b.         God sees man loneliness and creates an help meet for him.

c.         Genesis 2:21-22

 

And the Lord caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept:  and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof:  and the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

 

1)         God in His infinite wisdom decided that the help meet for Adam would be a woman, not a man.

                                                2)         God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.

 

2.               Leviticus 18:22

 

Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind:  it is abomination.

 

3.               Romans 1:26-27

 

For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections:  for even the women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:  and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.

 

                                    a.         Three words describe the evil nature of homosexuality:

                                                1)         Vile (819) affections:  disgraceful, shameful affections

                                                2)         Unseemly (808):  indecent, disfigured

                                                3)         Error (4106):  to stray from that which is right

                                    b.         Two consequences:

                                                1)         God gave them up.

2)         …receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.

                        4.         I Corinthians 6:9-10

 

Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God?  Be not deceived:  neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners shall inherit the kingdom of God.

 

                                    a.         Abusers of themselves with mankind:

                                                1)         Sodomites, homosexuals

                                                2)         One who lies with mankind as with womankind

                                    b.         They will not inherit the kingdom of God.

c.         In I Timothy 1:10, the same word is found and is translated:  “…them that defile themselves with mankind.”  Here, the practice is said to be “contrary to sound doctrine.”

 

C.              Both covenants portray homosexuality in an evil light.  It is a sin that will cause those involved in it to lose their souls.

 

III.        RIGHT EFFORT

 

A.               We must take a bold stand for Biblical morality.

1.               God’s Word has been given to instruct in righteousness (II Tim. 3:16-17).

2.               Christians have to make a stand on this divine standard.

3.               In a world that sees that standard as strict, Puritanical, oppressive, and ridiculous, we will be in for a fight (I Tim. 6:12).

 

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

 

B.               We cannot support the homosexual agenda or anyone who does.

1.               Ephesians 5:11

 

And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

 

2.               I Thessalonians 5:21-22

 

Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.  Abstain from all appearance of evil.

 

C.              We must take the gospel of Jesus Christ to the lost.

1.               Mark 16:15

 

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

 

2.               Part of the message of the gospel involves repentance.

a.         Acts 17:30

 

And at the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent.

 

b.         For the homosexual, this means leaving his sexual orientation.  He or she can no longer have same-sex sexual encounters.

 

 

                        3.         The gospel also involves baptism.

                                    a.         In baptism, one’s sins are washed away (Acts 22:16).

 

And now why tarriest thou?  Arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

 

b.         Some of the members of the church at Corinth had gone through this process (I Cor. 6:11).

 

And such were some of you:  but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of God.

 

1)               “Such were some of you.”  These words include the practice of homosexuality (I Cor. 6:9).

2)               But:  This conjunction sets forth a contrast between the way they were and how they are now.

3)               They had been washed, sanctified, and justified in their obedience to the gospel (I Cor. 18:8).

 

And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.

 

CONCLUSION

 

A.               There are many in our society who believe that sermons like this involve “much ado about nothing.”

1.               They do not see the evils of homosexuality.

2.               They do not believe that those involved in homosexuality affect them in any way.

 

B.               If the moral fabric of our society crumbles, so will our society (Prov. 14:34).

 

Righteousness exalteth a nation:  but sin is a reproach to any people.

1.                 There is nothing wrong about a faithful, loving, monogamous same-sex relationship.

2.                 There is nothing inherently evil about homosexuality.

3.                 The oneness proclaimed in the book of Ephesians should include homosexuals.

F.                 These are only some of the high-publicity items that have been reported of late.  The subtle, low-keyed efforts of the homosexual movement are seldom, if ever, discussed in a public forum.
