INTRODUCTION:
CHRONOLOGY of spirit gifts up to this point in Acts:
Promise given by Christ Mk. 16:17-18 (snakes, poison, cast out devils, speak in tongues, heal the sick)
Acts 2:4 tongues
Acts 2:43 many signs and wonders done by apostles
Acts 3:6 lame man at temple gate healed
Acts 4:16 Sanhedrin acknowledge (notable miracle hath been done by them) Peter-John
Acts 6:6 Apostles laid hands on seven
Acts 8:6 Phillip in Samaria still had miraculous gift
Acts 8:14-17 Apostles Peter-John laid hands on church members in Samaria
Acts 8:18 Simon notices “by laying on of the APOSTLES hands gift given
Acts 6:6, 8:6 Phillip who had gift from apostles could not pass it on so Peter-John came to Samaria to bestow gift.

APPLICATIONS
1. Sin of envy (jealousy) will cause an individual to do anything to get something, (money, things, recognition, prestige, power, influence)
2. Simon recognized that power was of the Holy Ghost. Power of preaching is in the gospel. Rom. 1:16
3. Simon outwardly in fellowship with the church but his heart was not right. Act 8:12-13 men and women baptized, then Simon himself believed also and when he was baptized he continued with Phillip.
4. Sins once forgiven in baptism can still resurface in the life of a Christian. Jas.5:16, Gal. 5:4 whosoever of you are justified by the law ye are fallen from grace Gal. 6:1 (Brethren spiritual restore such a one) Christians obligated to watch for other Christians souls. To ignore sins in the life of a brother or sister in LOVE Christ IS NOT !!!
5. Simon tried to “purchase gift of God” (18-20)
Today false doctrine one can purchase forgiveness from sins in this life and life after death (purgatory) indulgences
