JAMES 1:9

Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted.

 

1.       Brother

A.   Strong (80):  brother

B.    Thayer:

1.     A brother whether born of the same two parents or only of the same father or mother

2.     A fellow believer, united to another by the bond of affection

C.   Vine:  brother, or near kinsman…all believers

 

2.       Low degree

A.  Strong (5011):  depressed, that is, (figuratively) humiliated (in circumstances or

      disposition)

          B.  Thayer:

                1.  Literally, not rising far off the ground

                2.  As a conditioin, lowly, of low degree

          C.  Vine:  denotes of low degree or estate, Rom. 12:16

 

3.       Rejoice

          A.  Strong (2744):  to make boast, to vaunt

          B.  Thayer:  to glory on account of a thing

          C.  Vine:  to boast, to glory

 

4.       Exalted

          A.  Strong (5311):  elevation, altitude, sky, dignity

          B.  Thayer:  height, (metaphorically) rank, high station

          C.  Vine:  to lift up…being raised to honor
