HOMOSEXUALITY IS ON THE MARCH
Victor M.
Eskew
INTRODUCTION
A.
There seems to be a fact that many nations have forgotten,
including the
1.
His
title:
a.
The Governor among the nations (Ps. 22:28)
b. The
King of all the earth (Ps. 47:7)
c.
King of nations (Jer. 10:7)
2. The
words of Jehoshaphat (II Chron. 20:6)
And said, O Lord God of our fathers, art not thou God in
heaven? And
rulest not thou over all kingdoms of the heathen? And in thine hand is there not power and
might, so that none is able to withstand thee?
3.
These thoughts help us to understand the words of the psalmist (Ps.
9:17).
The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all nations that
forget God.
B.
If God is the Governor, the King, and the Ruler over all
nations upon the earth, it is imperative for them to submit to Him and His holy
laws.
C.
Evidence abounds that proves our nation is turning its back
upon God. One
of the evidences is seen in the acceptance and spread of homosexuality in our
land.
I.
RECENT EVENTS
A.
Five states in our nations have given approval to same-sex
marriage.
1.
2.
B.
Ten more states are likely to follow suit in the coming
months.
C.
In the past, homosexuality was looked upon as a blight
within our military.
1.
Prior to 1994, there was a ban on gays in the military.
2.
In 1994, President Bill Clinton implemented the “Don’t Ask,
Don’t Tell” policy.
Those entering the military were not asked their sexual orientation. They were not to
tell it to anyone.
3.
President Obama has made a campaign promise to lift the
“Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. This will allow homosexuals to serve in the
military and openly declare their sexual orientation while serving.
D.
Within the past couple of weeks there has been much
controversy surrounding the statements Carrie Prejean, a Miss U.S.A. candidate,
made about same-sex marriage.
1.
The Question: “
2.
The Answer: “I think its great Americans are able to
choose one or the other. We live in a land that you can choose
same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what in my country, in my family
I think that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to any
one there, but that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think it should be,
between a man and a woman.”
3.
The Results:
a.
Some say it cost her the pageant.
b. It
almost cost her the Miss California crown.
c. She
has been thrust into the national spotlight.
d. The
debate over same-sex marriage rages.
e. No
women’s group and no civil rights group have come to Carrie’s defense. They have not
advocated for her rights to state her opinion.
E.
The Christian Scholar’s Conference held on the campus of
1.
Date: June 2008
2.
Sixty-eight universities and colleges were represented,
along with twenty-four additional institutions. Pepperdine, Abilene Christian, Oklahoma
Christian, Harding, and Lipscomb had representatives there.
3.
The men and women present are supposed to be the brightest
“scholars” on the planet.
4.
Jared Cramer, a former ACU graduate and Reverend in the
Anglican (Episcopal) Church made a presentation on homosexuality. In the
presentation, he argues:
a.
There is nothing wrong about a faithful, loving, monogamous same-sex
relationship.
b.
There is nothing inherently evil about homosexuality.
c. The
oneness proclaimed in the book of Ephesians should include homosexuals.
F.
These are only some of the high-publicity items that have
been reported of late. The subtle, low-keyed efforts of the
homosexual movement are seldom, if ever, discussed in a public forum.
II.
ROYAL EDICTS
A.
Remember, God is the Governor among the nations. It is imperative
that we find out His will when it comes to homosexuality.
B.
Numerous passages can be set forth.
1.
Genesis 2:18-24
a. Man
is alone in the Garden of Eden.
b. God
sees man loneliness and creates an help meet for him.
c.
Genesis 2:21-22
And the Lord caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he
slept: and he
took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof: and the rib, which
the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the
man.
1) God
in His infinite wisdom decided that the help meet for Adam would be a woman, not
a man.
2) God
created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.
2.
Leviticus 18:22
Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind: it is
abomination.
3.
Romans 1:26-27
For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even the women
did change the natural use into that which is against nature: and likewise also
the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward
another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in
themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.
a.
Three words describe the evil nature of homosexuality:
1)
Vile (819) affections: disgraceful, shameful affections
2)
Unseemly (808): indecent, disfigured
3)
Error (4106):
to stray from that which is right
b. Two
consequences:
1) God
gave them up.
2)
…receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was
meet.
4. I
Corinthians 6:9-10
Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the
a.
Abusers of themselves with mankind:
1)
Sodomites, homosexuals
2) One
who lies with mankind as with womankind
b.
They will not inherit the
c. In
I Timothy 1:10, the same word is found and is translated: “…them that defile
themselves with mankind.” Here, the practice is said to be “contrary to
sound doctrine.”
C.
Both covenants portray homosexuality in an evil light. It is a sin that
will cause those involved in it to lose their souls.
III. RIGHT
EFFORT
A.
We must take a bold stand for Biblical morality.
1.
God’s Word has been given to instruct in righteousness (II
Tim. 3:16-17).
2.
Christians have to make a stand on this divine
standard.
3.
In a world that sees that standard as strict, Puritanical,
oppressive, and ridiculous, we will be in for a fight (I Tim. 6:12).
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life,
whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many
witnesses.
B.
We cannot support the homosexual agenda or anyone who
does.
1.
Ephesians 5:11
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of
darkness, but rather reprove them.
2.
I
Thessalonians 5:21-22
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all
appearance of evil.
C.
We must take the gospel of Jesus Christ to the lost.
1.
Mark 16:15
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach
the gospel to every creature.
2.
Part of the message of the gospel involves repentance.
a.
Acts 17:30
And at the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now
commandeth all men every where to repent.
b. For
the homosexual, this means leaving his sexual orientation. He or she can no
longer have same-sex sexual encounters.
3. The
gospel also involves baptism.
a. In
baptism, one’s sins are washed away (Acts 22:16).
And now why tarriest thou? Arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy
sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
b.
Some of the members of the church at
And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but
ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of God.
1)
“Such were some of you.” These words include the practice of
homosexuality (I Cor. 6:9).
2)
But: This conjunction sets forth a contrast
between the way they were and how they are now.
3)
They had been washed, sanctified, and justified in their
obedience to the gospel (I Cor. 18:8).
And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on
the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and
were baptized.
CONCLUSION
A.
There are many in our society who believe that sermons like
this involve “much ado about nothing.”
1.
They do not see the evils of homosexuality.
2.
They do not believe that those involved in homosexuality
affect them in any way.
B.
If the moral fabric of our society crumbles, so will our
society (Prov. 14:34).
Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a
reproach to any people.
